Author Talk and West Side Girl Readings

I will speak to your book club or group and read from my book, West Side Girl, and will answer questions about growing up in Chicago’s West Garfield Park neighborhood in the 50s and 60s. I will share photos and anecdotes, too. I can join your group via Zoom meeting or any other videoconferencing platform you suggest. I only ask that the group make a donation to Chicago’s Off the Street Club, www.otsc.org. Please contact me at amoswald@yahoo.com for details.

REDLINED - AUTHOR TALK with West Siders, Linda Gartz and Anita Solick Oswald, host and interviewer. Sonsored by the Dairy Arts Center

Note:  Please share. This is a Zoom event. Registrants will be sent the password to join before the event.

The legacy of redlining can be seen right now when African Americans die at double the rates of whites from Covid-19. Redlining is a perfect example of the systemic racism that has led to the murder of George Floyd and aroused worldwide protests.

Please join Linda Gartz, for a discussion about her award-winning book, Redlined. Inspired by a trove of long-hidden family letters, diaries, photos, spanning the 20th Century, Redlined interweaves a riveting family story with the history of redlining. Linda will share this history, read short excerpts from Redlined, and speak about the federal government’s redlining policies that segregated America. She’ll display historic photos and talk about digitized versions of the original 1940s redlining maps. Plenty of time for Q&A.
